Teacher of Music
REPORTS TO: Head of Department
PAYSCALE: Main Scale to Upper Pay Scale
LOCATION Sir Frederick Gibberd College
TERMS:
You will be required to meet the general requirements of this post as specified in the
School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document. In addition, you will be required to
fulfil any reasonable expectations from the Headteacher.
CONTRACT: Permanent – Full Time, starting September 2025
Purpose Of The Job
• To deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Music, inspiring students to achieve their potential
and develop a lifelong appreciation of music.
• To contribute to the wider musical and performing arts life of the school and Trust

Team, Teaching / Associate Staff, School Representative, External Agencies, Students and
Parents.

Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Learning
• To teach and be responsible for the progress of Music students across the 11 – 16 age range, including GCSE
under the direction of the Head of Department
• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to a range of abilities and learning
styles.
• To assess and report on students’ attainment and progress in KS3, GCSE grades and progress in KS4.
• To teach to the requirements of the National Curriculum programme.
• Develop students' musical knowledge, performance skills, and appreciation through practical and theoretical
lessons.
• Use a variety of teaching methods, including the integration of technology and music software.
• Assess, record, and report on student progress in line with school and Trust policies.
• Have a clear understanding of the needs of all students, including those with special education needs, those of
high ability, those with English as an additional language, those with disabilities and be able to use and evaluate
distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them.
• To ensure the curriculum being taught in your classroom is challenging for all pupils and scaffolding is provided
where needed.
• Provide constructive feedback to support student development.
• Promote high standards of behaviour and engagement in lessons.
Curriculum and Enrichment
• Contribute to the development and delivery of a rich, diverse, and inclusive music curriculum.
• Organise and lead extracurricular music activities, including choirs, bands, and ensembles.
• Support school concerts, productions, and other performance opportunities.
• Encourage student participation in external music events and competitions.
• Work collaboratively with other departments, particularly Drama and Dance, to enhance performing arts
provision.
Pastoral and Professional Responsibilities
• Act as a form tutor and support the school’s pastoral care system.
• Have clear rules and routines for behaviour in classrooms, and take responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour both in classrooms and around the school, in accordance with the school’s behaviour policy.
• Build positive relationships with students, parents, and the wider school community.
• To carry out a share of supervisory duties.
• Demonstrate an awareness of the physical, social and intellectual development of children and know how to adapt teaching to support students’ education at different stages of development.
• Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, knowing how and when to draw on advice and specialist support.
• Engage in professional development and contribute to the sharing of best practice across the Trust.
• Uphold school policies on safeguarding, inclusion, and equal opportunities.
Additional duties:
• To play a full part in the life of the School community, to support its distinctive mission and ethos and to
encourage staff and students to follow this example.
• To develop a calm learning atmosphere by completing lunch duties each week as required by the
Headteacher.

• To support student progress by completing one homework club session and/or one enrichment/booster
session after school each week as required by the Headteacher.
Other specific duties:
• To continue personal development as agreed.
• To actively engage in the performance review process.
• To undertake any other duty as specified by the Headteacher not mentioned in the above

The person undertaking this role is expected to work within the policies, ethos and aims of BMAT and to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be assigned. The post holder will be expected to have an agreed flexible working pattern to ensure that all relevant functions are fulfilled through direct dialogue with employees, contractors and community members.
English Duty
This role is covered under part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 and therefore the ability to speak fluent spoken English is an essential requirement for this role.

1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent. 2. A degree in Music or Music related subjects. 3. Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to teaching

Experience 1. Proven record as an outstanding teacher with a proven track record of securing outstanding outcomes for students over the last three years (depending on experience)
2. Proven experience teaching Music at Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).
3. A track record of achieving good or better outcomes for students in Music.
4. Experience in planning, delivering, and assessing engaging lessons aligned with the National Curriculum.
5. Experience using data to track and improve student progress. 6. Experience in delivering or contributing to extracurricular activities
or school-wide literacy initiatives. 7. Evidence of leadership or responsibility roles within a school
setting.
